מנוע החיפוש החדש כולל רק מאמרים אקדמיים ומחקרים ברשת ומיועד לאפשר לסטודנטים וחוקרים לגשת למידע הרלוונטי ביותר לתחום המחקר שלהם

גוגל השיקה אתמול (ד') מנוע חיפוש הכולל רק מאמרים אקדמיים ומחקרים ברשת. המנוע, הזמין בכתובת http://scholar.google.com , מבוסס על אלגוריתמים ייחודיים ומיועד לאפשר לסטודנטים וחוקרים לגשת למידע הרלוונטי ביותר לתחום המחקר שלהם.
גוגל הכריזה כי אין בכוונתה לגבות כסף עבור השירות ואף אינה מתכוונת להציג בדפי התוצאות מודעות טקסט המופיעות במנוע החיפוש הרגיל. "גוגל הרוויחה הרבה מהמחקר האקדמי, כך שזו עבורנו אחת הדרכים לגמול לקהילה האקדמית", אמר אנורג אצ'ריה, מנהדס החברה שפיתח את כלי החיפוש החדשים.

על אף שמנוע החיפוש הרגיל כולל גם תוצאות מאתרים של אוניברסיטאות ומוסדות מחקר אחרים, החברה לא הפרידה עד כה בין תכנים אקדמיים למסחריים. תוצאות החיפוש אף מציינות את שנת פרסום המאמר ומקורו, ועבור חלק מהמאמרים מוצמד אזכור של מספר הציטוטים מתוכם ברחבי הרשת. כאשר הגולש לוחץ על הקישור, הוא מופנה לתוצאות של כל האזכורים האלה.

בחודש שעבר השיקה גוגל תוכנית המאפשרת למוציאים לאור לסרוק את הספרים שלהם ולהוסיף אותם לאינדקס של מנוע החיפוש, ובכך לאפשר לגולשים לעיין בתכניי הספר לפני שהם מחליטים אם לרכוש עותק.
