Value of Pleasure or Pleasure of Value
Veto's main argument in favour of the "hatama" principle, is that the human being (and maybe the whole of Being) is geared in a way that the faculty of choice/progress can only follow the identification of compatibility (hatama). Whether one seeks to be generous or greedy, a hero or a vilain, one must first identify that our act or atittude, is one of compatibilty that unifies the diverse.
The criteria for compatibility is not only an identification of essence (etzem) but also of potence (otzma). If one decides to forsake health for a good ice cream, one admits that in essence health carries more compatibility, but in potence the ice cream obviously has a more powerful force of compatibility. Thus, the ideal is to progress towards unity of essence and potence.
Now one may ask: What is this whole psychosophy (a term coined by Jehosef, I think) about? Who cares if we act out of the value of compatibility or just upon a whim or desire for plain pleasure?
The answer is that upon that discussion depends whether we value heroism and we view lack of heroism as perversion, or we think that heroes who have forsaken pleasure for their heroism are just crazy.
In other words, do we look in our endeavours for that which is right or for that which is pleasant? Is the value of pleasure only its being right or is the value of righteousness only the pleasure that one derives from it?
