Operation Summer Brake'' is coming to the Thruway
The New York State Thruway Authority and State Police Troop T yesterday announced that ''Operation Summer Brake'' will take place tomorrow, August 18 through Sunday, August 22, 2004.
''The summer travel period is upon us and we urge motorists to celebrate the good weather and summer season responsibly,'' said Thruway Authority Executive Director Michael Fleischer. ''While everyone is anxious to get on the road and to their destination, we remind motorists to remain alert, always wear their seat belts, and never drink and drive.''
From August 18 through August 22, Members of State Police Troop T, dedicated solely to conducting speed and aggressive driving enforcement, will be deployed daily along the 641-mile New York State Thruway.
''Troop T will be out in full force patrolling the highway, as well as watching for intoxicated drivers, speeders and conducting seat belt checks,'' said State Police Troop T Major George Beach II. ''Warmer weather tends to bring more motorists out onto the road and Troop T is dedicated to keeping the Thruway one of the safest highways in the nation.''
