Hofstra University School of Law has tapped Brooklyn Law School professor Aaron Twersky as its next dean, Hofstra President Stuart Rabinowitz announced yesterday.
Mr. Twersky is believed to be the first Hassidic Jew to lead a U.S. law school, Mr. Rabinowitz said. An original member of the Hofstra law faculty, and at one-time its interim dean, Mr. Twersky taught there from 1972 to 1986 before leaving for Brooklyn Law. He also has taught at Duquesne University School of Law, Cornell Law School, Boston University and the University of Michigan.
Mr. Twersky, an author of more than 70 articles and five books about torts, product liability and conflict of laws, is "a nationally and internationally renowned scholar and a revered teacher," Mr. Rabinowitz said.
Selected after a nationwide search, Mr. Twersky will replace interim dean Alan Resnick on July 1.
