שני פיצוצים שמקורם טרם הוברר, נשמעו הבוקר בתחנות רכבת תחתית בלונדון, בהפרש של זמן לא רב זה מזה. תנועת הרכבות התחתיות בעיר הופסקה כליל ותחנות הרכבת התחתית פונו מיושביהן.
משטרת לונדון מסרה, כי ישנם מספר נפגעים במה שהיא מגדירה כ"אירוע רציני מהמדרגה הראשונה". עדי ראייה מדווחים על אנשים הנוהרים מתוך אחת התחנות כשהם מכוסים בדם.
הפיצוץ הראשון נשמע בתחנת הרכבת התחתית "אלדגייט" שבמרכז לונדון. זמן קצר לאחר היוודע הפיצוץ הראשון, דווח על פיצוץ נוסף, בתחנת אדג'וור רוד שבצפון לונדון. כמה תחנות נוספות פונו מיושביהן.
ברשת סקאי ניוז דווח, כי סיבת הפיצוץ טרם הובררה, אך ממשטרת התחבורה של לונדון נמסר כי ייתכן שהפיצוץ נבע מתקלה באספקת הכוח.
עד ראייה בתחנת אלדגייט מסר לסוכנות הידיעות רויטרס כי "אנשים נתקעו בתחנה למשך חצי שעה. חלקם התעלפו ואחרים נתקפו בהלה". בגלי צה"ל דווח כי שר האוצר, בנימין נתניהו, השוהה בלונדון, נמצא סמוך למקום הפיצוץ.

Statement claiming London attacks
The BBC has located an Islamist website that has published a 200-word statement issued by an organisation saying it carried out the London bombings.
The organisation calls itself the Secret Organisation Group of al-Qaeda [literally the base] of Jihad Organisation in Europe.
The group is previously unknown.
The website has previously carried statements purporting to be from al-Qaeda. It is not possible to verify such claims published on the web.
