The United States government reportedly began coordinating with NATO its plans for a possible military attack against Iran.
The German newspaper Der Tagesspiegel collected various reports from the German media indicating that the North Atlantic Treaty Organization are examining the prospects of such a strike.
According to the report, CIA Director Porter Goss, in his last visit to Turkey on December 12, requested Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan to provide military bases to the United States in 2006 from where they would be able to launch an assault.
The German news agency DDP also noted that countries neighboring Iran, such as Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Oman, and Pakistan were also updated regarding the supposed plan. American sources sent to those countries apparently mentioned an aerial attack as a possibility, but did not provide a time frame for the operation.
Although Der Spiegel could not say that these plans were concrete, they did note that according to a January 2005 New Yorker report American forces had entered Iran in 2005 in order to mark possible targets for an aerial assault.

HYDERABAD, India (Reuters) - U.S. Senator and former Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry said on Thursday that Iran was making a dangerous choice in pushing ahead with its nuclear ambitions. "Iran has made a dangerous and silly decision of confronting not just the U.S. government but the entire international community," Kerry told reporters in the southern Indian technology hub of Hyderabad during a visit to India. Kerry's statement came as officials from Britain, France and Germany plan to meet their counterparts from China, Russia and the United States in London next week to discuss Iran's decision to restart sensitive nuclear work. Kerry said Iran could be referred to the U.N. Security Council if the crisis continued. "If all diplomatic channels fail, we have no choice but to take the issue before the international body," Kerry, a strong proponent of nuclear non-proliferation, said. Separately in London, British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw said he thought it highly probable that Iran would be referred to the Security Council over its decision to restart sensitive nuclear work.

Blair threatens UN action on Iran
Iranian technicians Western powers suspect Iran's nuclear ambitions are not peaceful UK Prime Minister Tony Blair says Iran's decision to resume its nuclear activities is likely to result in a referral to the UN Security Council. Speaking in parliament, Mr Blair said European ministers meeting in Berlin on Thursday would decide how to proceed. A US state department spokesman also said it was now "more likely than ever" that the case would be sent to the UN. But Iran's leader dismissed the threat. He said the research would go on despite the Western "fuss". 'Spoiling for a fight' Tehran says it broke the United Nations seals on the Natanz nuclear research facility on Tuesday because it wants to produce electricity, not because it is pursuing nuclear weapons.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - If Iran continues on its current nuclear course, it will leave the international community no choice but to refer Tehran to the U.N. Security Council for possible actions, the White House said on Tuesday. The United States was reacting after Iran removed U.N. seals at its Natanz uranium enrichment plant and resumed nuclear fuel research on Tuesday. "If the regime in Iran continues on the current course and fails to abide by its international obligations there is no other choice but to refer the matter to the Security Council," White House spokesman Scott McClellan said. He also said that if Iran started nuclear enrichment and reprocessing it would be considered a "serious escalation." Tehran denies wanting nuclear technology for anything but a civilian energy program aimed at satisfying the Islamic Republic's booming demand for electricity. But the United States and the European Union doubt that Iran's atomic ambitions are entirely peaceful. If the U.N. Security Council takes up the matter, it could impose economic sanctions.

TEHRAN, Iran
Iran removed seals on its nuclear facilities Tuesday, ending a two- year freeze on work there despite warnings from the United States and other countries concerned about Tehran's nuclear ambitions. The United States rebuked Iran for the move, calling it a step toward creating the material for nuclear bombs. British Prime Minister Tony Blair's official spokesman said the international community was "running out of patience" with Tehran. Both countries, along with France and Germany, have called on Tehran to cease nuclear activities until an agreement has been reached on the scope of its nuclear program. Foreign Secretary Jack Straw said Tehran was again in breach of resolutions passed by the U.N.'s nuclear watchdog and said steps to restart uranium enrichment could not be justified. "We are profoundly concerned that Iran has decided to restart research and development activities related to uranium enrichment," Straw said in a statement. "There was no good reason why Iran should have taken this step if its intentions are truly peaceful and it wanted to resolve long standing international concerns," he added http://www.breitbart.com/news/2006/01/10/D8F1T2NO3.html
Sources: Iran to Begin Enriching Uranium ABC News Has Learned Iran Intends to Take Critical Step in Making Material for Nuclear Weapons
By JACQUELINE W. SHIRE Jan. 9, 2006 — ABC News has learned that Iran intends to begin enriching uranium — the critical step in making material for nuclear weapons — a move European diplomats and officials at the International Atomic Energy Agency, or IAEA, have tried to prevent over the past three years. Sources with knowledge of Iran's nuclear program tell ABC News that a senior Iranian official notified the IAEA verbally over the weekend of its intention to introduce uranium hexafluoride gas, or UF6, into centrifuges at a facility in Natanz, 150 miles south of Tehran.

'Iran could have bomb'
27/12/2005 - (SA)
Jerusalem - Iran would be able to build an atom bomb within two years, the head of Israel's Mossad overseas intelligence service, general Meir Dagan, was quoted as saying on Tuesday.
According to Israeli public radio, Dagan said: "One or two years from now at the latest, Iran will have the fissionable material to make a nuclear bomb. From then on, producing the bomb is just a straightforward technical process.
"In the coming months, without any hindrance, Iran will be independent in terms of nuclear technological material."
Dagan was speaking during an annual presentation to Israel's parliamentary defence and foreign affairs committee.
Israeli politicians and military commanders had stepped up warnings about Iran, which the Jewish state and the United States accused of trying to develop a nuclear arsenal. Iran denied the charge.
Israeli fears were heightened after Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in October called for the Jewish state to be "wiped off the map".
Israel was believed to be the only nuclear power in the Middle East, although it had never admitted to having a non-conventional arsenal
