Flatbush Hatzolah vs NYPD Highway 2!!
July 26, 2007
At 4:00PM this coming Tuesday July 31, the smell of kosher hot dogs, cut grass and the sounds of cheering crowds will be heard in the world famous Coney Island Keyspan Park - as Flatbush Hatzolah will ''play ball'' against the NYPD Highway 2 Unit in a charity softball game. This exciting event will be open to the public for the first time. Raphael Treitel, a Flatbush Hatzolah Member - who is the organizer of the game - spoke with Yeshivaworld and told us of the uniqueness of this particular game.
He told us that for the past number of years, Flatbush Hatzolah has been playing weekly summer baseball games against various NYC agencies - such as NYPD and FDNY to foster a spirit of camaraderie and friendship. These ball games have successfully enhanced the unique relationship between the various agencies and Hatzoloh, and gives all a chance to ''get out of the work uniform'' and further enhance the important partnerships and understanding that the community can really count on. While always competitive, the games have been enjoyed by all.
Precinct commanders rave about the dividends paid off and Brooklyn South Boro Chief Fox himself places great importance on this ongoing successful community interaction.
The Flatbush Hatzolah has decided to change the setting of this game from a standard NYC park, to play the game at the beautiful Keyspan Park home of the Brooklyn Cyclones.
The event will be charging a small entrance fee with all proceeds going to the family of injured NYPD Highway 2 Officer Scot Abrams.
Due to the historic proportions of the game, there are rumors that NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly will attend, and many NYPD Chiefs attending & playing the game as well.
Tickets will be available at the door for only $10.00 per person. The game is scheduled for 4:00PM, but the gates will open at 3:00PM. Kosher hot dogs & other food will be available as well. (Keyspan Park is located on Surf Avenue at West 16th Street in Coney Island.)
Discounts are available for groups and/or camps, and sponsorship opportunities are available.
As the time of the game is early (4:00PM) and really affordable, Hatzoloh hopes that day camps and families will choose to attend this important community event.
