Section 8 Vouchers
for CB1 Residents
An increasing number of
residential evictions in North Brooklyn has prompted the city to allow very
low-income residents of Greenpoint and Williamsburg
to apply for a limited number of Section 8 Vouchers/Certificates. Those who
qualify may receive rent subsidies for either their current apartment or
another apartment elsewhere in New
York City. Either way, permission must be obtained
from the landlord.
Qualification Criteria:
• Tenant must live in the neighborhoods of Greenpoint or Williamsburg (Community District 1).
• Gross annual income must be no more than $14,900 for one person; $17,000 for
two people; $19,150 for three people; or $21,250 for four people.
• Actual rent paid must be greater than one-third of gross monthly income.
The program is only for United States
citizens or United States
Green Card holders.
• Permission from the landlord is necessary (with the exception of landlords
already utilizing certain city-sponsored programs).
• Apartments must fulfill certain size and occupancy standards. Rent level is
limited to approximately $1030 for a studio; $1113 for one- bedroom; etc.
