R' Nuchem Rosenberg, famous for his anti-molestation crusade in the Chasidish community, was targeted in a shooting this weekend, according to sources close to the activist.
R' Rosenberg was reportedly shot at with a small caliber firearm; his forehead was grazed [see enlarged photo HERE], but he otherwise escaped injury. While the sources did not provide exact details as to the attack, they say that the attack was the work of members of the Jewish community upset with R' Rosenberg for going up against some of the powers that be in the course of his activities.
Several years ago, R' Rosenberg founded a telephone hotline dedicated to addressing what he maintained were issues of corruption in Williamsburg and in the greater Chasidish community at large. Earlier this year, he was forced to close the hotline due to pressure placed upon his opponents. At that time, he stated [listen HERE] that he was forced to buckle to the demands of his opponents due to threats made to his life. In response, his detractors had said that no such threats were ever made. They maintained that R' Rosenberg's claims were nothing more than an attempt to gain sympathy from the public.
