It was an historic evening in Montreal, as for the first time in 12 years, both Satmar Rebbes were in town to celebrate the wedding of the daughter of Rabbi Dovid Meisels, who is the son-in-law of the Beirach Moshe and the Rabbi of Montreal’s Satmar community.
At 4:15, Rabbi Aaron Teitelbaum landed in Montreal, and was taken directly to the Yetev Lev Beis Midrash of the Satmar community in Montreal where he was warmly welcomed. After an inspiring Mincha, the Rebbe spoke to the community, sharing words of Torah to open the new Zman (learning period).
At 6:30, the Rebbe left for Beth Ora, where he prepared the Kesubah and was Mesader Kiddushin under the Chuppah.
After the Chuppah, Askanim and community leaders accompanied the Rebbe to the Petah Tikvah Shul for Maariv, where Rabbi Avraham Benshimon, Rov of the Shul, presented him with a copy of his Sefarim.
At the wedding, the men’s hall was full of dignitaries and Rabbonim. The atmosphere was full of anticipation and excitement, the joy almost tangible. Then, the Rebbe entered with his entourage and the music started blasting. Chassidim danced in front of the Rebbe, others climbed on chairs and elevated platforms to catch a glimpse of the Rebbe.
The Rebbe joined in the dancing, together with his brother-in-law Rabbi Dovid Meisels and with the Mechutonim and other Rabbonim.
Then, Chassidim cleared room as the women arrived for the Mitzvah Tants, which was a lively and joyous few minutes.
When the Mitzvah Tants was over the Satmar Rebbe was accompanied by the entire community and followers of both Rebbes to his car which left immediately back to the airport. It was 11:00.
About five minutes after Rabbi Aaron Teitelbaum left, the other Satmar Rebbe, Rabbi Zalman Leib Teitelbaum arrived. He was ushered into the wedding hall with joyous singing.
Rabbi Zalman Leib had visited his Satmar Mosdos in Montreal over the course of the day. After a small break to Daven Maariv, he was accompanied to the men’s hall where the joyous dancing continued. The Rebbe danced with the Chosson, Mechutonim, and Rabbonim at the head table, then washed and sat down to eat while the Chassidim continued to dance.
After Bentching at around 1:00 in the morning, the Kallah along with her entourage came downstairs to the men’s hall for a second, just as lively, Mitzvah Tants. The dancing and singing lasted until 2:00 in the morning.
