Dear Governor Crist, It is in deep earnest that I write you with regards to Martin Grossman. I beseech you to reconsider carrying out his execution. The man that exists today is not the wild, unstable teenager who committed this horrendous crime a quarter of a century ago. That kid is long gone. Martin has matured on death row into a kind, compassionate, G-d fearing, educated individual. He has no disciplinary reports on his record. His calm nature and gentle demeanor are respected by officers and inmates alike. He nurtures and befriends fellow inmates. I have been visiting him on death row for many years and have watched him grow into the man he is today. Time has changed the man, and although nothing can restore Ms. Park's life and potential, Martin has done as much as possible to evolve into a solid, humble human being. While it is our civic duty to punish those who commit crime, it is also our civic responsibility to utilize our intelligence and human compassion, taking into consideration all factors, before rendering an irrevocable decision.
Sincerely yours

Pittsburgh, PA - A judge has indefinitely delayed the execution of an unemployed white immigration attorney responsible for a Pittsburgh-area shooting rampage that eventually left six people dead.
Forty-four-year-old Richard Baumhammers, of Mount Lebanon, was scheduled to be executed March 18. But Allegheny County Judge Jeffrey Manning stayed that execution Friday after Baumhammers' attorney filed notice of a new appeal.
Gov. Ed Rendell signed a death warrant in January.
Baumhammers shot his Jewish neighbor, two Indian men, a Chinese man, a Vietnamese man, and a black man on April 28, 2000.
He was sentenced to death for the five victims who died outright. The sixth victim, 32-year-old Sandip Patel, of Plum, was left paralyzed and died of complications from pneumonia in 2007.

Thank you for contacting me and sharing your concerns about the execution of Martin Grossman
On December 13, 1984, Mr. Grossman violated the terms of his probation by leaving Pasco County and having a stolen firearm in his possession. In a routine stop, Florida Fish and Wildlife Officer Margaret Park found the weapon. When she reached for the radio in her patrol car to report him, Mr. Grossman attacked her with her own large flashlight, beating her over the head and shoulders 20 to 30 times. When Officer Park tried to fight back, Mr. Grossman took her .357 Magnum revolver and shot her in the back of the head, killing her.
Mr. Grossman took several carefully planned steps to cover up this horrible crime. The weapon was buried, and Mr. Grossman attempted to burn his clothes and shoes, which were later disposed of in a nearby lake. The following day, Mr. Grossman thoroughly cleaned the van and changed its tires to mislead law enforcement.
Officer Park's autopsy revealed lacerations on top of her head, hemorrhaging inside the scalp and extensive fracturing of the skull. All of these injuries resulted from Mr. Grossman's attack. The facts of this crime clearly meet the definition of heinous, atrocious and cruel, and his actions afterward demonstrate his well-reasoned attempts to cover it up.
The courts have fully reviewed Mr. Grossman's legal claims, and his conviction and sentence have been affirmed by both the Florida Supreme Court and the United States Supreme Court. Based on the facts and exhaustion of legal proceedings, and in accordance with Florida law, I signed his death warrant on January 12, 2010.
Thank you again for taking the time to contact me.
the automated reply e-mail that FL Gov. Crist sent Feb 16, writing the gruesome details of how Ms. Parks died and what was done to ditch evidence, is misleading at best, and pure defamation and flat-out lies at worst.
The Governor omits ANY mention of the words Thayne Taylor the person with whom Grossman spent that evening in the woods. Taylor by the least helped Grossman commit the acts that Crist writes about, or perhaps more accurately: Taylor led in action, and Grossman followed.
It sure was an easy move for prosecutors to recommend a low prison term for Taylor in exchange for incriminating Grossman on all acts, regardless what really took place between Taylor, Grossman and Parks. It is however an unheard and precedent less CHUTZPA for Crist to produce the smear he did, knowing/thinking that Grossman does not have much of a family that will stand-up to defend his name.
I am NOT defending the acts of Grossman. However, his misdeeds does NOT give a free pass for Crist to write what he wants about this case.
