Brussels - Two weeks after the Jewish community of Antwerp held a day of fasting and prayer, six Sifrei Torah, stolen from an East Street synagogue have been recovered. According to a report in
Joods Actueel
, Pinchas Kornfeld, secretary of the Jewish community in Antwerp confirmed that the Torahs were stolen by a gang of Eastern European thieves and are currently on their way back to Antwerp.
While the thieves demanded a ransom of hundreds of thousands of Euros for the return of the Torahs, it appears that only a partial ransom was paid.
Among the Torahs stolen was a 200 year old scroll which survived the Holocaust.
