Vineland Kosher Poultry sold to Mehadrin Kosher Poultry.
Vineland plant to stop production. Brand to be continued but produced at Mehadrin's facility.
I called Vineland to confirm. The person who answered could not confirm or deny the sale, but did tell me no slaughtering is taking place today.
I'll post more details as they come in.
Update 11 pm – The story appears to be as follows:
A well placed source tells me that a man from the 5 Towns purchased Mehadrin and Vineland, both of which were allegedly losing money. But while purchasing Mehadrin's plant, its brand and its customers, he did not do the same for Vineland. He purchased Vineland's brand and customers, but not its plant. The plan is to produce the Vineland brand at the Mehadrin plant.
The buyer, I'm told, has no experience working in the kosher food or meatpacking industries.
I was also told this buyer gave Mehadrin a $1 million dollar bridge loan to keep the plant up and running while the sale was being structured.
