The NYPD Hate Crime Task Force on Monday arrested a man in connection with a series of anti-Semitic threats and vandalism in Manhattan and Brooklyn.Police charged David Haddad, 56, of Manhattan, with aggravated harassment as a hate crime. Sources told Fox 5's Lisa Evers that Haddad is himself Jewish and is related to one victims and knows another.The NYPD has connected Haddad to four incidents: threatening phone calls made to an 80-year-old woman in Brooklyn on December 11, 2011; anti-Semitic symbols and statements scrawled on five apartment doors and a threatening phone received in a building in Manhattan on January 10, 2012; a threatening phone call made to an 87-year-old woman in Manhattan on January 11; and a threatening voicemail message left for a 78-year-old woman in Brooklyn on January 1, authorities said.Sources said he is also the prime suspect in a rash of Swastika incidents and a phone threat over the weekend in Midwood.

Brooklyn, NY - At approximately 12:30 this morning, Assemblyman Dov Hikind (D-Brooklyn) was awakened by concerned neighbors who called to tell him that more anti-Semitic graffiti had been found down the block from his home on East 5th Street between Avenue L and the Dead End in Midwood, Brooklyn. A large black swastika had been painted along with two smaller black swastikas on a private driveway with the hate message, “Die Jews.” Across the street, two swastikas were also painted on the door of an apartment building at 1293 East 5th Street.
Hikind rushed from his home, where he found a crowd of concerned people gathered on the street despite the late hour. Hikind noted that the general sentiment expressed by community residents was, “Here we go again. When will these attacks stop?”
Hikind said, “Can you imagine coming home and seeing swastikas painted on your property? This is just the latest in a series of ongoing anti-Semitic occurrences in Brooklyn and throughout New York City, and people are justifiably very concerned and upset. Almost every day, there seems to be another incident reported. The police have hardly made an arrest in any of these cases. I am calling on the NYPD to use every resource available to apprehend the person(s) responsible for these heinous acts so that people in the community can once again have peace of mind.”

Yet another hate crime has hit the Orthodox Jewish community of New York. The latest attack was on Ocean Parkway and Avenue L, in the heart of the Midwood Community. The swastikas were painted on the Yeshiva of Brooklyn, as well as a nearby garage.
Detectives from the NYPD’s Hate Crimes Unit are on the scene, as well as local elected officials, and many news agencies.
Standing in front of his district’s latest incident of swastika graffiti at a large yeshiva on the corner of Ocean Parkway and Avenue L, Councilman David G. Greenfield condemned what he termed “an epidemic of swastikas in New York City.”
“In the last few weeks we have seen swastikas painted across New York–from Midwood, Brooklyn to Midtown Manhattan and beyond. We will not accept these open displays of hatred, and those responsible must be brought to justice. I thank the NYPD’s 66th Precinct, Hate Crimes Unit, and Crime Scene Unit for their swift response to today’s incident, which is clearly aimed at terrorizing not only America’s largest Jewish community but also the nation’s largest community of Holocaust survivors.”

Brooklyn, NY - Swastikas were found scrawled in a Borough Park apartment building, authorities said.
A 41-year-old tenant in the six-story building on 14th Avenue near 48th Street found five swastikas and “Hitler is great” scrawled near the buttons of the elevator at about 9 p.m. Tuesday, cops said.
The NYPD’s Hate Crimes Task Force is investigating.

על פי החקירה המתנהלת במשטרה, עולה כי זריקת חומרי התבערה היא ניסיון לפגוע ברב הקהילה, המתגורר בקומה השנייה בבניין. לדברי אחד התובעים במשטרה, השריפה היא חלק מההטעיה של הכוונה המדוברת לפגוע ברב.
הרב שוכמן סיפר בראיונות לכלי התקשורת המקומיים כי הוא, אשתו, חמשת ילדיו והוריו ישנו בביתם בשעת המקרה. לדבריו, לפתע הוא הבחין בהבזק של אש מחוץ לחדר השינה שלו - ואז הוא החל לעלות בלהבות. "נמנע אסון גדול, הוצאתי את כל בני המשפחה מהבניין בשלום", אמר הרב.
המקרה מצטרף לשורת אירועים אחרים על רקע אנטישמי שאירעו בעיר בשבועות האחרונים. בעקבות כך, הורתה המשטרה המקומית להגביר את מידת הכוננות בכל המוסדות היהודיים בסביבה.
לאחרונה קבעו ראשי המשטרה להיפגש עם רבני הקהילות בסביבה כדי לדון במקרים האנטישמיים הפוקדים את האזור. הפגישה תוכננה לימים הקרובים בבית הכנסת בו פרצה השריפה. לא ברור אם הפגישה תידחה או תתקיים כמתוכנן.
NYPD Detectives are looking for any cameras in the vicinity which may have captured the neo-Nazi who is responsible for the latest hate-crime to hit the Chasidic community in Williamsburg.
