(Friday, January 13th, 2012) Williamsburg – In recent months there have been numerous incidents of anti-Semitic vandalism in Williamsburg, including the discovery of a swastika in Kent Village Housing this week. These hate crimes, typically in the form of swastika graffiti in areas of Williamsburg with a large Hasidic population, erode the sense of security that has long existed for the Williamsburg community. While these crimes are being investigated by the NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force, Council Member Levin is joining Rabbi David Niederman, Executive Director of the United Jewish Organizations of Williamsburg, Assemblyman Joseph Lentol, and other community leaders in a stand of solidarity to call for an end to the hateful graffiti and a restoration of a sense of calm and security in the community.
“One act of hate is too many, but I really cannot believe the amount of anti-Semitic graffiti that has been on display in Williamsburg over the past few months,” said Levin. “I find it incredibly troubling that there are people out there, whether kids or adults, who think it is acceptable to tag swastikas and other symbols of anti-Jewish sentiment around Williamsburg. We are here today to demand that whoever is perpetrating these crimes to stop—residents in this community should be able to walk down the streets in their own neighborhood without being fearful. In a community as diverse as Williamsburg, we must learn to co-exist peacefully. I applaud the NYPD’s commitment to finding the perpetrators of these terrible crimes and bringing them to justice, but we, as a community, must work together to ensure that this type of hate does not persist in our neighborhood.” The NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force focuses on apprehending perpetrators of hate crimes – unlawful acts committed against persons, groups or places targeted because of their race, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability, gender or age. The NYPD has always been responsive to the needs of Williamsburg and the community remains confident that the perpetrators of these hate crimes will be brought to justice.
“Residents of Kent Village Housing, some of whom are Holocaust survivors, were terrified to once again see swastikas in our neighborhood,” said Rabbi Niederman. “Today, our community stands together to say that we are united against hate and intolerance in any form. The latest attack was on Ocean Parkway and Avenue L, in the heart of the Midwood Community. The swastikas were painted on the Yeshiva of Brooklyn, as well as a nearby garage.
Detectives from the NYPD’s Hate Crimes Unit are on the scene, as well as local elected officials, and many news agencies. Standing in front of his district’s latest incident of swastika graffiti at a large yeshiva on the corner of Ocean Parkway and Avenue L, Councilman David G. Brooklyn, NY - More Anti-Semitic Graffiti Scrawled In Midwood
 swastikas on a private driveway with the hate message, “Die JewsBrooklyn, NY - At approximately 12:30 this morning, Assemblyman Dov Hikind (D-Brooklyn) was awakened by concerned neighbors who called to tell him that more anti-Semitic graffiti had been found down the block from his home on East 5th Street between Avenue L and the Dead End in Midwood, Brooklyn. A large black swastika had been painted along with two smaller black swastikas on a private driveway with the hate message, “Die Jews.” Across the street, two swastikas were also painted on the door of an apartment building at 1293 East 5th Street. Hikind rushed from his home, where he found a crowd of concerned people gathered on the street despite the late hour. Hikind noted that the general sentiment expressed by community residents was, “Here we go again.  MARC A. HERMANN FOR NEW YORK DAILY NEWSA swastika was spray-painted on the door of a kosher foods business on 16th St. in Borough Park, Brooklyn. An Orthodox-Jewish neighborhood in Brooklyn was defaced with Nazi swastikas in a half-dozen different
spots — including on a synagogue, police said Friday.
“What kind of sick person does this in a neighborhood of Holocaust survivors?” asked Assemblyman Dov Hikind, a Democrat who represents Borough Park.
Police on Friday night released surveillance images of two suspects being sought, both described as white or Hispanic men their 20s. One suspect wore a light hat, T-shirt and shoes, while the other wore black shorts and shoes, a light hoodie and glasses.
Three of the hated symbols were discovered painted along 16th Avenue — on a synagogue, Stolin Bais Medrash; on the security gate at Fishmans Grocery; and at 16th Avenue Glatt Takeout, according to cops.
Another swastika was spotted on the side of a van parked on 42nd St. between 15th and 16th Avenues, police said. And the fifth was found painted on a building on 18th Ave. A sixth swastika was discovered on a car parked outside of Junior High School 223, police said. 
DCPIThis suspect in his 20s, who was wearing black shorts, black shoes, a light colored hoodie and glasses, was captured on videotape defacing buildings with swastikas.Police are looking for whoever is responsible and the NYPD’s Hate Crimes Task Force is investigating.
“There will be no tolerance for hatred here and our community will address this from top to bottom,” said Hikind, whose parents also survived the Holocaust. “We’ll show that we’re serious about prosecuting criminals who would hurt us with their vile actions.”
City Councilman David Greenfield — who represents Midwood, Boro Park and Bensonhurst — has put up a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
“Once again, we find ourselves under attack from individuals who think nothing of spreading hate and fear throughout the community,” he said in a statement.
There have been a series of swastika vandalisms in predominantly Jewish neighborhoods in recent months.
In January, a half-dozen swastikas were found in the heavily Jewish Midwood section. Nobody was arrested.  DCPIThe same suspect is videotaped spray-painting the swastikas in Borough Park, Brooklyn.That same month, a troubled Manhattan man named David Haddad was nabbed by police for allegedly going on a swastika-painting spree in his Chelsea neighborhood and in Midwood.
Haddad, who had been raised Jewish, was turned in by relatives who said he was harassing them.
Anti-Muslim hate graffiti has also been reported in Brooklyn’s Kensington neighborhood, where many immigrants from Pakistan and Bangladesh live.

 Some of the shattered car windows on Lee Avenue and Hooper Street in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn.Brooklyn, NY - Approximately one dozen Williamsburg residents woke up this morning to discover their vehicles’ windows shattered by a pellet gun, police are trying to determine if the vehicles were selected randomly or if they were targeted by anti-Semitic vandals. The overnight shooting spree began early this morning at 12:15 AM when Rabbi Aron Kraus of Williamsburg was traveling southbound on the Harlem River Drive from Monsey and an unknown individual in a dark colored SUV pulled up next to his car and shot out the windows with a pellet gun. Just thirty minutes later, the first car windows were discovered shattered in Williamsburg and at least twelve cars parked on Lee Avenue near Lynch Street had been vandalized.
