Vehicle strikes toddler in bungalow parking lot
A toddler was flown to a trauma center yesterday after he was hit by a vehicle in the Nachlei Emunah bungalow colony parking lot.
The boy suffered serious cuts to his head, but rescuers said his injuries didn't appear life-threatening. He was flown to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla.
The incident happened about 5:15 p.m. at the colony on Joyland Road, just outside Monticello. Sullivan County sheriff's deputies were sorting through witness accounts and interviewing the driver of a pizza truck.
Hatzolah medics loaded the stretcher holding the tiny victim onto their ambulance and drove him to the Apollo Plaza, where a helicopter landing zone was set up by Monticello firefighters.
People at the scene of the accident said kids flocked to the pizza truck when it arrived in the parking lot. The toddler and two young girls were playing in the sand of the lot at the time. The two girls were unharmed.
Names of those involved were not available. Police said no one had been charged.
