מדענים חקרו ומצאו קשר בתגובות המוח בין התחושה שלאחר נקמה לבין התחושה בזמן אכילת מאכלים מתוקים.
לפי המחקר, הנקמה מלווה בתחושות של סיפוק המשפיעות על המוח באופן דומה להשפעת מאכלים מתוקים. יש בסיס נוירולוגי כמו אחרי נטילת סמים.

Swiss study finds revenge 'sweet'
Revenge feels sweet and Swiss researchers are saying they have brain scans to prove it.

In a study investigators said might help explain how social norms arose and regulate behaviour, brain centres linked to enjoyment and satisfaction lit up in young men who punished others for cheating them.

Dominique de Quervain of the University of Zurich and colleagues tested 15 male students, telling them they were doing an economic study.

The men all sat in positron electron tomography, or PET scanners, that recorded brain activity.

Sweet Revenge May be a Hard-Wired Reward

It seems to activate a part of the brain linked with pleasurable feelings, a new study suggests.

THURSDAY, Aug. 26 (HealthDayNews) -- Scientists have discovered that the sweetness of revenge may have a neurological basis.

A Swiss brain imaging study shows that punishing people when they behave unfairly activates the same reward circuitry of the brain that is fired up when sniffing cocaine or seeing a beautiful face.

The findings, which appear in the Aug. 27 issue of Science, may partly explain the phenomenon of "altruistic punishment," which is exacting revenge on behalf of a stranger.
