HIKIND LIKES MIKE FOR MAYOR
"New York City is in better shape than it was four years ago."
Hakoras Hatov was the order of the day as Assemblyman Dov Hikind (Democrat-Brooklyn) crossed party lines to endorse Republican Mayor Mike Bloomberg: "New York City is in better shape than it was four years ago. We owe the mayor our gratitude for doing the impossible, the insurmountable and the incredible.
"In every area he has done almost the impossible. Mike Bloomberg took crime down even lower than the 20-year lows we were seeing four years ago. We've got crime statistics down 20%. The Mayor is working closely with our communities to make our daily lives better than ever. His responsiveness to the concerns and sensitivities of our communities has been and continues to be outstanding.
"I have worked with New York's mayors for more than 20 years. What a delight it has been to work with Mayor Bloomberg! He listens, he cares, and he makes it happen. This has been a great marriage between New Yorkers and Mike Bloomberg. Who would want to separate or divorce when things are going so well?
"Four years ago, race relations were tearing this City apart, neighborhood by neighborhood. Many New Yorkers thought the divisions were insurmountable. Not Mike Bloomberg. He has brought this City together peacefully, as a steady, decisive, and caring leader.
"I am a proud Democrat, but labels are less important than doing the right thing. Giving Mike Bloomberg a second term is the right thing. His leadership has been critical in keeping us safe during the most dangerous of times, since 9/11. Terrorists have their sights set on New York, and Mayor Bloomberg has his sights set on terrorists.
"Mayor Bloomberg has shown incredible leadership with our quality of life, the quality of security, and the quality of his support. And of all of the mayor's opponents, no one has even come close to giving us a convincing reason to change captains mid course
