Marist poll says Bloomberg could have won as Democrat
Had Republican New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg sought the Democratic nomination for mayor he would handily defeat all four of the candidates running in next week's Democratic primary, according to a just-released poll by the Marist College Institute for Public Opinion in Poughkeepsie. When registered Democrats are asked to choose a candidate for mayor, 42 percent would give their party's nod to Mayor Bloomberg.
Although former Bronx Borough President Fernando Ferrer still leads the field of Democratic candidates on the ballot for next week's primary, he hasn't gotten much closer to the 40 percent needed to avoid a run-off. Ferrer has the support of 32 percent of registered Democrats. His three competitors are closely matched for second place. Congressman Anthony Weiner receives 17 percent, and Council Speaker Gifford Miller has 15 percent. Manhattan Borough President C. Virginia Fields has slipped to 13 percent. Twenty-three percent of Democrats are undecided.
Among Democrats who are likely to vote on primary day, Fernando Ferrer receives 33 percent compared with 20 percent for Congressman Weiner, 17 percent for Council Speaker Miller, and 14 percent for Manhattan Borough President Fields. Sixteen percent of likely Democratic voters remain undecided.
In addition to the 23 percent of registered Democrats who are undecided about their choice in next week's primary for mayor, many Democrats who have made up their mind are not firmly committed to their candidate. Only 40 percent of registered Democrats who support a candidate say they are strongly committed to their choice compared with 54 percent who felt this way in the first week of September, 2001. Thirty percent say they somewhat support their choice, and 28 percent say they might vote differently on primary day. Two percent are unsure.
As the Democratic candidates enter the final stretch of the primary campaign, more Democratic voters feel the candidates have focused on the issues rather than on attacking one another. Forty-seven percent of registered Democrats say the candidates have spent more time discussing the issues compared with 36 percent of Democrats who feel they have spent more time attacking their opponents.
Regardless of the candidate they support, 76 percent of New York City Democrats believe Mayor Bloomberg will win re-election, according to the Marist poll.

would you please be so kind, and let me know exactly where this mentioned rezoning in B.P. is taking place, in particular what are the block & lot numbers to be affected. if this is by any chance reality, I might as well be part of the game, and have some benefit out of this practice. and if it is indeed no more than simple politic campaign hoax, cut it immediately.
