Milk delivery man robbed at gunpoint, pistol whipped
A milk deliveryman who was outside the Yasgur's Ice Cream Stand on Forestburg Road in Monticello early this morning was jumped by four armed suspects who were waiting for him in some nearby bushes. They robbed the driver who works for the AHVA Food Corporation in Brooklyn of $10 and then pistol whipped him, causing a laceration to his face. Two of the suspects have already been apprehended.
Immediately after the incident, the suspects fled on foot into Evergreen Drive and the victim called 911. Monticello Police were on the scene in less than two minutes and Police Officer Robert Pratti with his K-9 partner Hunter began tracking the suspects. They were assisted by State Police and Sullivan County Sheriff's units.
Based on the tracking of the K-9 unit, officers searched DeHoyas Park and found two of the suspects hiding in the rafters of the park pavilion. The victim was able to identify the pair as two of the four who robbed him. The K-unit was able to recover a pellet pistol believed used in the robbery.
The two taken into custody early this morning ar 14 and 15 years of age; however, because of the nature of the crime, the Sullivan County District Attorney's Office has decided to charge them as adults with felony counts of robbery in the first and second degree.
Monticello Police are continuing their investigation and are following leads on the other suspects who are still at large.
