Orthodox Jews gathered on the steps of the City Hall in New York City, NY on 11 August 2005 to demonstrate their opposition to the statements and stance of Dov Hikind in reference to racial profiling.
Monsey, NY: August 10, 2005:
Orthodox Jews Oppose Assemblyman Dov Hikind's Racial Profiling
A contingent of Rabbis, representing Orthodox Jews in New York, will assemble, with the Almighty's help, on the steps of the City Hall of New York to bring to the attention of the public that we are in ABSOLUTE OPPOSITION to Assemblyman Hikind's views on the use of Racial Profiling by the New York City Police Department. His views are his alone and in no way represent the views of Orthodox Judaism or Orthodox Jewry.
His approach is deeply insulting to us and to the highly respected Arab
Community. We maintain an ongoing, close and friendly relationship with the Arab and Muslim Communities in the United States and abroad and we take Hikind's statements as a personal affront.
We totally applaud the New York State Police Department in its swift rejection of Hikind's proposal.
We pray to the Almighty for speedy world peace and justice. Amen.
A press conference will be held on the steps of the City Hall, New York City, NY on Thursday, August 11, 2005 at 12:30pm.
