To our Jnet Customers.
At the end of November, a very aggressive virus, known as Sober, began spreading on the web. We had sent a communication to you, warning of this virus. Despite all efforts, some customers were infected. Fortunately, most of those infections within Jnet were discovered and removed.
However, many other users were infected and remain infected. Many of you may have noticed the increase in notifications from our mail system, telling you about messages which were blocked due to a virus infection. This is a direct affect of the massive spread of the Sober virus.
It has been discovered that tonight, at 7:00PM, those computers which are infected with the Sober virus will launch a new, massive attack on the web. Since this has become known, there may be a possibility that these attacks may be prevented before they begin, but the possibility of a massive attack is still very real.
In order to prepare for this possibility, please make sure that you have an antivirus program installed on each and every computer you use, and that it is fully updated with the latest virus definitions. A link to a free antivirus program is included at the end of this message. Our mail server is updated and prepared to intercept malicious mail, but it is not 100 percent foolproff. Therefore it is very important that you keep your computers updated fully.
As always, we urge you to exercise caution and common sense when dealing with unfamiliar mail:
Do not open attachments, unless you can positively identify the sender, and you were expecting an attachment from them.
Do not fall for messages purporting to come from government agencies - they are faked.
Most mail claiming to come from a bank is fake. Unless you receive mail regularly from your banking institution, treat all such mail as suspect
Sincerely,
The Jnet Tech Support Team.
