A wonderful concept, music is a hobby that's thought provoking, stimulates creativity, boosts self confidence, teaches discipline, and provides a sense of accomplishment, what could be better?
But there is a downside,
Little Yanky gets a saxophone, he practices for a year, he can read a little music, he has all the fancy mouthpieces, a collection of reeds, he has the most expensive mic on the market, and the same neck strap as Arkady.
He now wants to broaden his horizons. He is no longer content with whatever it is that his teacher is telling him, or maybe his teacher is even convincing him, to go see the great woodwind players as they perform live.
Now we all know the problem with that,,, if the cream of the crop were playing at the local chasunah halls we have no issue, it just happens to be that they perform at nightclubs, and other such venues, and I think that we all agree that these ''joints'' are no place for a young chasidish (or even frum) adult to hang out.
Don't get me wrong I think it's a great idea that we are teaching, or encouraging our children and teens to get involved with music,, you wanted peoples thoughts, here is a scenario, a point of view that you might not have thought about.
