NEW YORK --
A Brooklyn businessman has pleaded guilty to stealing about $1.4 million in diamonds from 43 dealers around the country, authorities announced Tuesday.
Reuven Isakov was charged with grand larceny in the second degree and scheming to defraud in the first degree. He faces up to 15 years in state prison.
Isakov, 42, operated a wholesale diamond business between Aug. 11, 2004, and Dec. 31, 2004, in White Plains, Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore said in a statement.
He took diamonds on consignment from the dealers and paid them with bad checks, didn't pay them or never returned the gems, prosecutors said.
He'll be sentenced June 1, 2006.
