LAKEWOOD — Authorities today are investigating the abduction and sexual assault of a woman from a shopping mall Sunday night, said police Capt. Robert Lawson.
Police are releasing few details about the case but said the woman, an Orthodox Jew, was abducted around 9:45 p.m. Sunday outside the Trim Gym health club by a person driving a green Jeep Cherokee, Lawson said.
The woman was sexually assaulted and then returned to the same shopping mall Monday morning, police said. The woman was hospitalized.
Lawson said police are investigating the possibility that the woman's abduction was related to a recent abduction of a Jewish woman in Brooklyn.
The woman, about 20 years old, was leaving Trim Gym, a fitness center in the ShopRite plaza at Kennedy Bouelvard and Route 9. The woman is believed to have put her personal belongings in her car when she was abducted, said Joe Atlas, a spokesman for Lakewood's Orthodox Jewish community.

Lakewood, NJ - Large Reward Offered In Case Of Woman Who Abducted
Lakewood, NJ - A group of religious advisers in Lakewood is offering a reward in the case of a woman from their close-knit Orthodox Jewish community who police say was abducted and sexually assaulted before being released earlier this week.
The Lakewood Vaad, a council of rabbis from the town, has offered a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for the woman's abduction and assault.
