Fire breaks out at Brookly yeshiva

(Borough Park - WABC, April 23, 2007) - A two-alarm fire broke out at a yeshiva in the Borough Park section of Brooklyn Monday, officials said.

NewsCopter7 was over the scene as the fire burned through the roof of the building.

Authorities say the fire began on the roof of the Yeshiva Chatzar Hakodesh Sanz - Klausenberg located at 1420 50th Street around 1:20 p.m. FDNY officials say there were multiple fires burning on the roof of the four-story brick building.

Firefighters quickly put out the roof fires.

Heavy smoke was visible in the area.

The cause of the fire has not been determined, and there is no word on injuries or evacuations at this time

Firefighter Injured In Fire At Brooklyn Yeshiva
April 23, 2007

A three-alarm blaze caused heavy damage to a Brooklyn yeshiva in Borough Park Monday afternoon.

Fire broke out just after 1 p.m. at the Yeshiva Chatzar Hakodesh Sanz on 50th Street and 14th Avenue.

Firefighters say the weather made it difficult to put out heavy flames on the third and fourth floor.

The blaze destroyed the school's library, which recently underwent a $500,000 renovation.

"It is hot for the guys," said FDNY Chief James Leonard. "It's a big building; it was very smoky; a lot of fire. Our guys did a good job."

"Hopefully, we will get some sponsors from our co-generation who will be sponsoring a new library and to remodel the synagogue," said Yochanon Gross of Yeshiva Chatzar Hakodesh Sanz.

The fire is under investigation by the department.

Four firefighters suffered minor injuries, but no students were injured.
