In an unprecedented move, Rav Aharon Teitelbaum of Satmar prevented his chassidim in London from participating in an anti-Israel demonstration. This year, for the first time, there was a major salute to Israel parade in downtown London celebrating the 60th year since the establishment of the State of Israel. When the Satmar community in London heard that there would be a large group of Orthodox Jews participating in the parade, they decided to stage a protest demonstration to take place as the parade was happening, also in downtown London. They procured a government permit for the protest and signs were posted all over the Stamford Hill neighborhood in London where most Satmar chassidim live. The signs exhorted all Satmar chassidim to join the demonstration and avail themselves of the buses to be provided to transport them to downtown London's Trafalgar Square where the parade was being held.

          On Motzoei Shabbos Parshas Korach, just hours before the scheduled parade, the authorities informed the Satmar kehillah that, for security reasons, their protest would have to be held together with a massive, anti-Israel protest being held by the rabidly anti-Israel Arab community of London. The askanim immediately called Rav Aharon Teitelbaum of Satmar and he unequivocally ruled that the chassidim should not participate under any circumstances in the demonstration that was sure to be interpreted by the masses as a joint effort of Jews and Arabs against the State of Israel.
