Shua Kessin, Gideon Levine, Avraham Fried,
and Yerachmiel Begun and the Miami Boys Choir

Not surprisingly, the concert began 15 minutes late with a surprisingly empty auditorium. Within a half an hour of the start, the auditorium filled up.
The ticket takers for this show were not the boring staff from the theatre. Intsead, Itamaar Lustiger and Gershi Adler, both former members of the choir, assumed the job. They did an incredible job, might I add!
Sitting right behind my parents and I was the parents of Doron Levine. They are incredibly kind people. They expressed the positive nature of their son's experience. They mentioned his great opportunities to travel near and far with the choir. They said that although he has enjoyed being in the choir, this would be his last set of performances and Yerachmiel mentioned this when introducing the boys.
Shua Kessin started off the night with 3 songs including V'samachta. His music was enjoyable. Shua was a bit late to this concert. Upon arriving, less than an hour before the show start, I saw a man carrying a guitar case asking the security man where the entrance was. I figured he was someone from the orchestra. Sure enough, it was Shua Kessin! He made up for it with his performance.
Avraham Fried came on next with 3 songs as well. He began with No Jew Left Behind. It's a great song, though he sang it at the last Miami concert for Pesach, as well. Afterwards, he sang his song, Yerushalayim. It definitely got the audience moving! Finally, he sang Didoh Bei from the Chazak! album. Avraham Fried was so well liked that more than once during his performance, excited fans came and danced in the front of the auditorium. Fried was great with them and has a way of showing his appreciation without disrupting his singing.
Though I thought Gideon Levine would come out next, it was Miami's turn. Miami opened their portion of the show with Revach. It was a spirited rendition! Soloists included Yair Kenig, Doron Levine, Yoshi Bender, Meir Silberberg, Yigal Saperstein, David Herskowitz, Naftali Jacobson, and Albert Ayal. They quickly moved into a medley including When, Shovas, and Nikadesh. Yoshi Bender began the medley with a solo. Yigal Saperstein came next, followed by Yair Kenig. The choir then joined in. From there, Moshe Yaakov Braun transitioned into Shovas. Other solos in Shovas included David Herskowitz and Yoshi Bender. Nikadesh followed with Yaakov Tessone and Meir Silberberg soloing. Cousins Yigal Saperstein and Binyomin Abramowitz had a solo together towards the end of the medley. Yerachmiel sang with them to complete the medley.
Yerachmiel then announced the next album coming out Rosh Chodesh Kislev. He explained that ''really the album is supposed to come out earlier, but we said it's going to come out later. So now we're hoping that it's really going to come out later instead of the earlier. Does that make any sense?'' Everyone laughed and the choir continued with Baavor Dovid Avdecha. Only 7 boys sang this song (Doron Levine, Yoshi Bender, Yair Kenig, David Herskowitz, Jeremy Herskowitz, Naftali Jacobson, and Yigal Saperstein). Soloists included Yoshi Bender and Yair Kenig. A bit of microphone trouble stopped Jeremy Herskowitz from singing his solo and Yerachmiel helped out.
Miami completed the first half of the concert with Yoshi Bender as he sang his Yerushalayim solo. The rest of the choir came out to join him. Soloists included Doron Levine, Naftali Jacobson, David Herskowtiz, and another by Yoshi Bender. Yair Kenig, David Herskowitz and Doron Levine formed a trio for one of the solos. Yigal Saperstein soloed just before Yerachmiel came out to end the song.
The 15 minute intermission was next.
Gideon Levine, ''the composer, arranger, and producer of the best of the best series'', began the second half. He sang about 5 songs. Like Shua Kessin's, his music was nice. Though I don't know the titles, the songs were Lo Keday, Keili Atah, Loo Lay, Yevarech, and Simcha.
Miami continued the concert with a medley of oldies but goodies. 6 boys began the medley with Lo Yisa Goy. Soloists included Yoshi Bender, Naftali Jacobson, David Herskowitz, and Doron Levine. Od Yishoma was next with 8 boys. Some of the soloists were Albert Ayal, Moshe Yaakov Braun, Yaakov Tessone, Ari Broyn, and Meir Silberberg. Kol Mi came next with 7 boys including Binyomin and Akiva Abramowtiz, Azriel Teitelbaum, and Jeremy Herskowtiz. 6 boys followed with Tehilas Hashem (Yair Kenig, Yoshi Bender, David Herskowitz, Yigal Saperstein, Doron Levine, and Naftali Jacobson. The whole choir then came out to complete the medley with Vehoyo Machanecho Kadosh. The only soloist was Yoshi Bender.
Next, they sang another new song, Eso Einai. The song began with a boy that I'm not sure the name of. Please e-mail me if you know. Doron Levine soloed with who I think is Yehuda Gorkin. Other soloists included Yaakov Tessone, Moshe Yaakov Braun, Yair Kenig, and Yehuda Gorkin & Doron Levine again (separately this time).
Avraham Fried returned for an awesome second appearance. He sang his hit, Chazak from the Chazak! album. He allowed for a lot of audience participation. Speaking of participation, Mr. and Mrs. Levine (Doron's parents) mentioned how wonderful Fried is with the boys. He is very friendly and willing to spend time with them before the concert. Then, he sang a brand new song called There's a Fire. It was a really catchy song. Next, Gideon Levine came out to sing with Fried. They sang Lama ma.
Yoshi Bender came out next and began to sing the first verse of Klal Yisroel Together. Yair Kenig continued the song and then they sang together. Doron Levine came out for the next verse, then David Herskowtiz, followed by Yaakov Tessone, Meir Silberberg, and Aryeh Moshe Harris. Although he didn't solo, Jeremy Herskowitz joined the other 7 boys to make 8.
The Miami Boys sang Moshiach next. Yerachmiel said ''you want Moshiach or you want the song…hopefully both.'' Yerachmiel asked the sound guys to cue the music and Moshiach began with 8 boys on stage. Soloists included Yigal Saperstein, David Herskowitz, and Yair Kenig. The rest of the choir then came out to join in the singing. Yoshi Bender, Aryeh Moshe Harris, Jeremy Herskowitz, Doron Levine, and Meir Silberberg also had solos.
Avraham Fried and Yerachmiel came out to sing Boruch Habah together. This was really great. Some fans began to dance in the aisles. They soon moved to the front and before we knew it, they were up on stage. Fried enjoyed this although I'm not sure if Yerachmiel did.
Yerachmiel took the next 5 minutes to introduce the choir. Two boys came out with black hats (Aryeh Moshe Harris and Naftali Jacobson). Binyomin Abramowitz came out with his clarinet, Yigal Saperstein with his violin, Akiva Abramowitz and Azriel Teitelbaum with their saxophones, Meir Silberberg with a tambourine, and Moshe Yaakov Braun with a bongo drum. Yerachmiel then announced, ''it's been a great night.'' With that, the choir began singing their finale, Hinei. The boys with instruments played periodically throughout the song. One boy was even dressed with what looked like a Lipa getup. Avraham Fried joined them and the choir sang his version of Hinei also. At one point, Avraham Fried began to conduct the choir. It was really comical and fun! Akiva Abramowitz soloed in the finale.
The concert ended ''L'shanah Haboh B'Yerushalayim, thank you Miami, thank you orchestra'' (Avraham Fried).
Overall, this concert was great. The choice of location was not great, although NJ is closer for me than NY. This concert reminded me too much of the Pesach concert with similar performers, songs, and even the finale.
