NYC soup kitchen serves hundreds for holiday

NEW YORK - A Brooklyn soup kitchen is offering a festive celebration for the poor on the Jewish holiday of Purim (POOR'-im).
A lavish, traditional meal was served Monday night and again Tuesday at Masbia (MAHZ'-bee-uh). The Hebrew word means "satiate."
Executive Director Alexander Rapaport likens the holiday to a "Jewish Halloween." Costumes are being provided for families attending the celebration in Borough Park.
Rapaport says he is struck by the increasing number of children at the soup kitchen. He says it's fulfilling to help the families, but also painful to see so many.
