רבבות יהודים חרדים עוזבים בימים אלו את בתיהם המרווחים בניו-יורק, לטובת בתי הקיץ בהרי הקטסקילס שבמדינת ניו יורק.
המשפחות שהות בבתי הקיץ במשך כל השבוע, והגברים מגיעים בסופי שבוע – לאחר שבוע העבודה – ומצטרפים לבני המשפחה.
מספר עסקנים פתחו השנה בית מדרש גדול בעיירה סאון פולסברג, הממוקמת על אם הדרך בין ניו יורק לבקתות הנופש. ההישג הגדול בבית המדרש שנבנה לרווחת המתפללים, הוא אישור המשטרה למבנה המאולתר.
בשנה שעברה סגרה המשטרה מספר בתי מדרש שהוקמו בדרך לקאונטרי, וקנסה את ציבור המתפללים. המשטרה נהגה בקשיחות רבה בשל העובדה שבתי המדרש המאולתרים הפכו למעין קניון, כשעשרות רוכלים הגיעו וניסו למכור את מרכולתם למאות הגברים שעצרו בדרכים לתפילה.
משפחת פרידמן, שפתחה את בית המדרש לעילוי נשמת אביהם, ניהלה משא ומתן ארוך עם הרשויות בכדי לאפשר את פתיחת בית המדרש.
בשיחה עם 'בחדרי חרדים' אמרו בני המשפחה: "כאן זה לא מירון ולא ל"ג בעומר. מי שיפתח דוכן ללא אישור המשטרה – יעצר. בשנה שעברה התקוטטו הרוכלים בינם לבין עצמם וגרמו לחילול ה' נוראי, מה שהביא לסגירת בית המדרש. השנה המראות הללו לא יחזרו על עצמם".
