Fire Hurts Two During Religious Ceremony in Brooklyn
(New York-WABC, April 5, 2004) — An explosion hit in Brooklyn just
after 11:30 a.m. on Monday. Newscopter Seven was over the scene,
where two people were burned during part of a religious ceremony.
The FDNY says the use of accelerants ignited a flash fire or an
explosion outside a home on 42nd Street near Fort Hamilton Parkway
in the Borough Park section.
Fire officials say the participants in the ceremony were burning
unleavened bread in a ceremony on the street as part of a Passover
tradition.
Two people were taken to Staten Island University Hospital North.
Their condition is unknown.
Investigators tell Eyewitness News the two injured may be young
children or adolescents. They are still looking into how it all
happened.
