A young Manhattan man jumped to his death from the 66th floor of the Empire State Building yesterday afternoon, cops said.
Police were investigating why David Abramowitz, 21, committed suicide at the landmark building about 3 p.m., landing on a sixth-floor ledge.
"I saw this black shape out of the corner of my eye and thought nothing of it, like it was a bird," said Jackie Materon, who works in a bookkeeping office on the 60th floor.
Abramowitz bought a ticket for the building's 86th-floor observation deck yesterday afternoon, police said, but he was seen on surveillance video returning to the lobby.
Police said Abramowitz then boarded another elevator and apparently got off on the 66th floor. Investigators found an open window in some vacant office space there.
Numerous building employees called 911 after seeing the fatal plunge, then peered out their windows to see the body crumpled on the ledge above W. 34th St.
The last suicide at the historic building was in November 2004.
